GERSON GRIND

Gerson Grind Curriculum

FALL 2026

2022 HS Grind

THE 1st GRIND:

Session #1: “Footwork & Finishes”: The first session will be focused on footwork and finishes. A big portion of this session will be about the art of the jab step and the multi dimensions of one’s “first step.”  We will focus in on our rip work, using our full length, and creating layers of space for optimal offensive decision making. This will include how to take an opponent’s space and momentum and use it against them as an attacker. Next, we will work off the dribble and get crafty, athletic, and powerful with a variety of finishes around the rim! To finish out the session we will put our new fancy feet and finishes to the test with a 1v1 competition. Who has what it takes to be the King/Queen of the court champ!?

Session #2 – “Mid-Range Master”: For the second session we will be focusing primarily on rhythm, timing, ball handling, & shooting. We will warm up by finding our own dance and individual rhythm.  Everyone has a rhythm; we just have to find yours!  We will be working both off the dribble and off of the catch. Change of speed and direction will be heavily involved in everything we do. One main focus will be on a Gerson specialty - the mid-range game.  Everyone wants to learn fancy finishes and shoot deep 3’s, but majority of the game is played in all the space in between. This session will be focused on everything that is “mid-range” oriented, which includes pull-up jumper variations, runners, and floaters.  We are going to be explosive and master the beautiful lost art of a mid-range jumper! #MidRangeSpecialist

Session #3 – “The Dynamic Duo”: The third session will be dedicated to the 2-man game. We will focus on both the offensive and the defensive side of 2 man play. This will definitely be a heavy IQ night. On the offensive side, we will look at screening technique, passing variety, and how to make the correct read based (as the ball handler and the screener) based on how the defense plays the screen.  On the flip side, defensively, we will lock in on multiple ways on how to guard a ball screen. This will be a great session for all of our post players and big guards to show off their ability to dominate in the paint!  We will finish out the session with competing against each other to find the swaggiest, most dynamic #GersonPerson duo!

THE 2nd GRIND:

Session #4 – “Elite On 2 Feet”: The first session of the second grind will target specifically playing off of two feet! This may be our most footwork heavy session of the entire fall Grind. We will be learning to play the game off 2 feet in all different ways and from all different areas on the floor. We will spend a solid amount of time this session working on elite footwork in the paint. Finishing, passing, jumping, landing, shooting…all decision making off of 2 feet that you can think of! Simple gets buckets, and so does elite footwork ;-) So if you like fancy feet…then let’s turn up the heat and get jiggy wit it!

Session #5 - “The Zone Buster”: This session will be focused on all levels of scoring against a zone defense. This will primarily include shooting, cutting, passing, pivoting, and relocating in space. We will get reps in with passing off the move with both hands, getting into the seams of the zone, short corner/high post footwork & finishes. A major proportion of the night will be spent focusing on shooting - off the catch, off the kick, off the cut, and from distance! One of the hardest things as a shooter is being able to sprint full speed off ball and have the footwork, body control, timing, and rhythm on HOW to be a consistent successful sharpshooter from anywhere and everywhere on the floor. Let’s get down and ready to shoot the lights out!

Session #6 – “The Golden Grind”: We will kick off the final session by expanding our mental game. It will be the most exciting and unique session of the Fall 2026 #GersonGrind! We will tie everything together. Session 6 will be about the intangibles that you don’t see in a stat sheet, along with all the things that you do! Little things are big things. Champions make everyone else around them better! We measure our individual value, by how many other people we lift up and bring with us. Winners will THRIVE tonight! To find success during the final session, you will need leadership, a detail-oriented focus, elite communication, teamwork, high positive energy, an unmatched mental toughness, and a constant desire to COMPETE! We will learn to tune out the noise and find a way to focus and thrive within the chaos. The #GersonPerson who proves they embody the Grind mentality the most – will win the gold! Let’s goooooo!!! It’s Grind Time!
